Londani Loshaka – a Kitchen for Irene Chauke’s Feeding Scheme in Alex! After seeing a FB post by a good friend and former radio colleague David O’Sullivan in May, where David told the story of Irene Chauke and her feeding scheme in Alex: Londani Loshaka, we contacted David immediately! Reason being: our OneWingz partners, One Financial Services were moving offices, and had an entire canteen and kitchen that needed to be stripped and would be ideal for a feeding scheme like Londani Loshaka!

Irene needed a kitchen – she had been preparing daily meals for 400-800 kids, on an old, rusty double-hob gas cooker. One had one! Problem solved!!! Within 3 weeks, we had contacted our partners, Premium Kitchens, and Calvert Removals. Premium Kitchens had previously provided all the equipment to Hogshead – absolutely free of charge – to set up their kitchen for our OneWingz Legend Tribute at Steyn City in 2019! Calvert, through Brendan Nunan, has supported OneWingz for years with sponsorship, donations, and logistical support when we required storage or transport of goods that were too large for our main sponsor, the Courier Guy, to facilitate! Both came on board without hesitation. Calvert removed all furniture (see elsewhere for this ongoing story) and kitchen equipment within a couple of days, using 5 storage units in the process … again at no cost to OneWingz …. And delivered all items when they were ready to go! Edward and his Premium Kitchen team were amazing. Within 3 weeks, they had gone to the site in Alex, engaged Irene and ascertained her needs, and got cracking with the transport and installation of the kitchen.

To go even further, there was no 3 phase power (required for the donated stoves, fridges, etc), so Edward arranged to exchange all these items with gas-compliant items so that Irene would be able to cater for, what had grown to 800 kids per day! The kitchen was completed within 3 weeks, and Irene is now happily feeding the kids from her new kitchen!
